Primary Academic SCILLS (Structured Classroom for Intensive Learning of Language
provides students with a hands-on, concrete approach to reading, math, written expression, and content areas. The academics are based off of the Arizona Common Core Standards, but alternative curriculum and methods are used to focus on the most important concepts and skills. When appropriate, children are given opportunities to “pre-learn” lesson material from the general education classroom to increase their success levels in that setting.   The SCILLS program allow for ample opportunities to participate meaningfully with nondisabled peers. These opportunities often include recess, lunch, specials, field trips, assemblies, and other subjects/times as determined appropriate by the IEP team.

About Me

I am responsible for collaborating with general education teachers, teaching assistants, special needs assistants and parents to support children who may have additional or different educational needs and disabilities to the rest of their peer group. I also work with many outside professionals for example Speech and Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists and Behaviour Support teachers, who come in to train staff and work with my students in our school.  It is a really a special role as I have the privilege of working with children to enhance their access to learning. I welcome meetings with parents and carers since the unique insight and experience they have is vital in planning effective provision for their children.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading, hanging out with my 4 kids and 3 grandkids, traveling, and riding my motorcycle.
I also enjoy going out with my husband and friends exploring new restaurants and venues.
